Doors & More
Mash Dash

A hat, a cape, a mask—they’ll do for transformation,
But what you really need for ‘make believe’ is a free imagination.

12th Annual Halloween Doors & More: Saturday, October 15, 2016

Join us for this "weekend of a different sort," to benefit the nationally recognized Community PedsCare program, which supports children living with complex illness and their families.

About 90 percent of costs incurred by Community PedsCare are not reimbursed by insurance, which makes fundraising events like Halloween Doors & More and Monster Mash Dash instrumental in assisting families caring for a medically complex child.

  • About Halloween Doors & More

An innovative fundraising event, Halloween Doors & More, was developed in 2005 to build financial support and raise awareness of Community PedsCare while also delivering a memorable experience for Community PedsCare and First Coast families.

At this annual event, patients and their families have the opportunity to enjoy activities and entertainment where accommodations are made for their conditions without hampering their fun. Held in October at an indoor facility that can hold 1,800 people, Halloween Doors & More is a gala of a different sort. The event is fun and festive, not scary or spooky. Children trick-or-treat for toys at 14-feet-high fantasy “doors.”

For many parents, watching their children work their way through the doors is sheer delight. The broad smiles on their faces say it all. Many Community PedsCare children are so enthralled by the experience they don’t want to leave. One mother commented, “My child smiled more in one evening than she has the entire year.”

Hugely successful, Halloween Doors & More raised more than $425,000 in its first year, making it the biggest inaugural fundraiser in the city of Jacksonville. Since its inception the event has raised $4.2 million for Community PedsCare.

Proceeds from both events benefit Community PedsCare, a nationally recognized pediatric palliative and hospice program for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. A program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in collaboration with Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care and the University of Florida–Jacksonville, Community PedsCare offers support, comfort and care to more than 150 children and their families.

 The Impact of
Halloween Doors & More

“At age 7, our son was diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. I couldn’t imagine being without Community PedsCare. Our UF Health doctors help us with referrals and our nurse visits regularly. I have frank conversations with our social worker. The child life specialist has connected with my son and my other children. I am grateful for the ways Community PedsCare helps us.”
