Get Informed: What will I need to learn about providing physical care for my loved one? With a better understanding of such things as the proper way to lift or move your family member or friend, how to prevent pressure ulcers or techniques for handling bedpans and incontinence, you'll be more skilled and have more confidence in providing physical care. Your loved one's doctors or other health care providers can answer your questions about the kinds of physical care that may be required, and our nurses and other team members can give you hands-on instruction on how best to perform physical caregiving tasks. An important part of physical care is asking your loved one if they are experiencing pain, breathing difficulties or any other symptoms. Community Hospice physicians and nurses are highly skilled at managing pain and symptoms, and there is a great deal that can be done to keep your family member or friend comfortable with pain medication and other therapies. --- More in this section:
