Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s PēdsCare® Program: A Compassionate Approach to Pediatric Care

February 13, 2024 (Jacksonville, Fla.) – Community Hospice & Palliative Care continues to support families facing the challenges of pediatric illnesses through its nationally recognized Community PēdsCare® program. With a commitment to providing comprehensive and compassionate care, the program offers specialized services designed to enhance the quality of life for children and their families.

The Community PēdsCare® program, established in 2000, is a pediatric palliative and hospice program for children in Northeast and North Central Florida living with complex, chronic, life-limiting, or advanced illnesses. The Community PēdsCare® team supports specialized pediatric needs and medical care of children from prenatal to age 21. With a family-centered care approach, the Community PēdsCare® team enhances the lives of families through compassion and holistic care.

The program highlights specialized areas such as hospice and palliative care services, complimentary care services, including integrative/alternative therapies, music therapy and pet therapy, child life services, supporting siblings with therapeutic play, child and family advocacy with education and health care systems, and therapeutic support and social group activities embracing children and families. In addition, seamless support is offered through care settings, transitions from pediatric to adult care systems, and respite care, allowing parents and guardians to take a break from caregiving along with assessments and treatments in pediatric care. In-home medical care services are available to assist with the daily living activities of patients with serious, complex, or life-limiting illnesses and their families, coordinating home-based medical care and services related to expressive care therapies, social work, spiritual support services, emotional counseling services, emotional support services, grief counseling, and bereavement counseling.
