Community Hospice & Palliative Care Unveils Plans for Stephen R. Chapman Family Community Campus in Heart of St. Augustine
ST. AUGUSTINE—St. Augustine and St. Johns County residents soon will have one central destination to learn more about palliative and hospice care services, the Stephen R. Chapman Family Community Campus of Community Hospice & Palliative Care. This week, the organization unveiled plans for its new campus, slated to open in late 2018 at 1373 Dixie Highway in St. Augustine. Construction will begin in January.
The new campus will encompass 16,550 square feet and include a conference and education center, corporate and clinical offices and a resale store. The campus will be a welcoming place for all area residents, offering a variety of consumer- and health care provider-focused educational programs, advance care planning and community grief counseling and workshops, and community meeting space open to local residents and organizations.
Longtime area philanthropists Steve and Christine Chapman, whose financial commitment has made the Chapman Campus possible, are co-leading a capital campaign to raise at least $1.5 million to cover construction costs and ongoing expenses.
“Our ability to meet our commitment to this growing community has been limited due to a lack of adequate and accessible space to accommodate the many programs and services we offer,” said Susan Ponder-Stansel, president and CEO. “Our new Stephen R. Chapman Family Community Campus will provide that needed space and be the focal point for our community to interact with us.”
The Chapmans envision the campus as a community education hub to help residents prepare for current and future health care challenges.
“The campus will provide much-needed education and coordination for local residents and their caregivers, which will empower people to make informed decisions about their own or their loved one’s health care and better navigate the medical system of the future,” said Christine Chapman.
Community Hospice & Palliative Care has secured Fisher Koppenhafer Architecture and Interior Design as the architect, Matthews Design Group as the civil engineering firm, and Auld & White Constructors as general contractor.
